October 27, 2026 - GPT-6.1 Terra focuses on visual understanding, computer interaction, and routine professional work. It can interpret technical drawings, navigate application interfaces, fill out forms, and edit documents. OpenAI also reports improvements in factual accuracy compared with GPT-5.6 Terra.
On Terminal-Bench 4.0, a benchmark for command-line coding tasks, Terra scored 50.3% at maximum reasoning effort, compared with 21.5% for GPT-5.6 Terra, according to OpenAI. The company says its more advanced GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Astra models remain better suited to the most complex coding problems.
GPT-6.1 Terra became available on October 26, 2026, through ChatGPT Work and Codex for Plus, Pro, Enterprise, and Edu users. Developers can access it through the OpenAI API using the model identifier.
Standard API pricing is $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens. Cached input tokens cost $0.05 per million. OpenAI says these standard rates are 50% lower than those of GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol.
The model supports a context window of approximately 1.05 million tokens and a maximum output of 128,000 tokens. It also supports computer-use tools through the Responses API.
OpenAI classified Terra as meeting its Critical threshold for cybersecurity capabilities under its Preparedness Framework. The company says the model retains safeguards used for its more advanced systems and has improved resistance to malicious instructions that attempt to redirect its actions.
