- New product targets research, financial modelling, and client materials
- Morgan Stanley and Evercore helped shape the product
- OpenAI plans to expand its financial data coverage and move into other areas of finance
Sep 10, 2026 - OpenAI has introduced a finance-focused version of ChatGPT that combines its GPT-Astra model with built-in financial data, giving investment banking and equity research teams a dedicated workspace for research and analysis.
The product, called ChatGPT for Financial Services, was developed with Morgan Stanley and Evercore. OpenAI said feedback from the two firms helped determine which financial workflows the product should address.
Rather than requiring users to bring every data source into a general-purpose AI workspace, the new service includes financial information from providers such as Daloopa, PitchBook, LSEG News and Crunchbase. The dataset covers areas including company fundamentals, financial statements, and earnings information.
OpenAI said the system can use this information for company research and financial analysis, and help users build models and prepare client-facing materials. It can also use a firm’s existing templates to generate materials such as presentations.
The company is also focusing on traceability. Financial users can inspect citations associated with information generated by the system, while firms can connect additional sources through existing subscriptions to services including FactSet, S&P Global, Preqin, and Datasite.
Security and compliance are another part of the product. OpenAI said ChatGPT for Financial Services builds on enterprise controls such as role-based access and encryption, with workspace logs available for compliance and auditing workflows.
The launch gives OpenAI a more specialized offering for an industry where access to proprietary data and compliance controls can be as important as the underlying AI model. It also follows a broader effort by AI companies to build products around specific professional workflows rather than relying solely on general-purpose chatbots.
OpenAI said the initial focus is investment banking and equity research, but the company plans to broaden the product’s data coverage and extend it to other areas of financial services.
