YouTube Music Introduces AI Labels as AI-Generated Songs Increase on Streaming Platforms
YouTube Music is introducing labels to identify music created using artificial intelligence
The labels aim to give listeners more transparency about how tracks are produced
The move comes as AI-generated songs become more common across streaming services, raising questions about disclosure and authenticity
October 15, 2026 - YouTube Music will display an AI disclosure on the track’s player page when generative AI has played a significant role in creating a song. Listeners can tap the label to view additional information about the track’s AI involvement. The system covers music in which AI contributes substantially to elements such as composition and vocals.
YouTube is combining information supplied by music industry partners with its own detection systems. Partners can classify tracks as “Fully Gen AI,” “Partly Gen AI,” or “No Gen AI.” The categories distinguish fully generated songs from the ones that are created using AI music generators or songs that incorporate AI-assisted elements alongside human performance. Routine production techniques such as pitch correction do not automatically qualify a track as AI-generated.
Labels to Expand to YouTube
The rollout will extend beyond YouTube Music to the main YouTube platform. The labels focus on disclosure rather than restricting AI-generated music or automatically removing it from recommendations.
Other streaming services are taking different approaches. Deezer labels detected AI-generated tracks and excludes them from editorial playlists and algorithmic recommendations, while Spotify has introduced measures to address AI-related spam and impersonation.
