  • Chrome Skills lets users save frequently used Gemini prompts as reusable workflows

  • Saved Skills can work across the current webpage and selected browser tabs

  • The feature is rolling out on desktop Chrome, initially for users with US English browser settings.

October 7, 2026 - Google has introduced Skills in Chrome, a feature that lets users save frequently used Gemini prompts and run them again without rewriting the instructions. The feature is integrated into Gemini in Chrome and targets recurring browser-based tasks such as comparing products, analyzing recipes, and extracting information from lengthy documents.

How Chrome Skills Work

Users can save a prompt as a Skill directly from their Gemini chat history. Once saved, the instruction can be accessed by typing “/” in Gemini in Chrome or using the “+” button and selecting the required Skill.

A Skill can work with the webpage currently open in Chrome as well as other tabs selected by the user. Google says this allows multi-page workflows to be saved and reused rather than rebuilt each time. Saved Skills can also be edited when users want to modify the instructions.

Google is also providing a library of ready-made Skills. Examples include calculating protein information from recipes, comparing product specifications across multiple tabs, and extracting key information from long documents. Users can save these pre-built Skills and modify their instructions.

Security and User Control

Skills use the existing security protections applied to Gemini in Chrome. Google says certain actions require user confirmation before they are completed. For example, Gemini will ask for approval before a Skill adds a calendar event or sends an email. Chrome also applies traditional safeguards, including automated red-teaming and automatic updates.

Availability

Skills are rolling out to Chrome on Mac, Windows, and ChromeOS. The initial rollout is limited to users whose Chrome language is set to English (US). Saved Skills are available across signed-in Chrome desktop devices.

The Chrome feature is part of Google’s broader expansion of reusable Skills across Gemini. Google is also rolling Skills into the Gemini app and Workspace, where they are set to replace Gems over time.
